An overview of today's orthopedic surgery
Arthroplasty is a major component of orthopedic surgery that consists of reconstructing a diseased body joint for the purpose of relieving pain and restoring function. Among all types of joint replacements, shoulder arthroplasty is the surgery that has undergone the greatest increase over the last decade in the Western world.
26 %
1
of the world's adult population suffers from shoulder pain, making it one of the most commonly affected joint.
10 %
2
of total shoulder replacement surgeries develop complications in the year following surgery.
150,000
3
patients undergo a total shoulder replacement surgery in North America alone, every year.
$600M
The annual cost of complications following shoulder arthroplasty for the North American healthcare system.

A PROBLEM
A SOLUTION
Today, surgeons replace joints in the body without really knowing how the new artificial joint will affect the soft tissue structure (muscles, tendons and ligaments surronding the joint). Why ? Because it is impossible to measure the implant's impact on soft tissues with current medical technologies.
Soft tissue balance assessments are subjective, based on feel. Surgeons are forced to work with non-anatomical implants on defective anatomy. Fully restoring the original joint tension is especially difficult when the joint in question is exposed, soft tissues are loose, and "normal" anatomical landmarks are compromised.
To overcome the subjectivity of soft tissue balancing, Statera Medical designs smart implants that provide biomechanical data of the joint in real time. Our solutions allow surgeons to objectively balance the artificial joint in a patient-specific manner, from the moment the joint is closed, and throughout the life of the implant.
An objective & personalized fit
The data generated is analyzed and assembled live in order to streamline the operation. The interfaces display only the essentials - nothing more. The objective is clear: to be efficient.
A potential reduction in the complication rate
Reducing the complication rate is Statera Medical's main goal. For patients, this means fewer risks, a reduction in the need for major revision surgeries, hospitalizations, infection risks, in-patient and outpatient related health-care costs. All the saving to buy peace of mind.
A smart post-operative monitoring system
The transmission of data between the different components of the Statera ecosystem ensures continuity and medical monitoring. It only takes one click to consult the post-operative anatomical evolution
FOR SURGEONS
FOR PATIENTS
Patient-Centric ecosystem
If the intraoperative system is designed for the surgeon, the rest is entirely designed for the patient. The simple interfaces, the link with the doctor and the measuring device at home aim to relieve the patient of any source of stress.
Reduce the learning curve for physicians
The collection of data, combined with objective medicine, allows more experienced surgeons to train the next generation of doctors with the objective of achieving specific values. Streamlining and facilitating the transmission of medical knowledge are also objectives of Statera Medical.
Valuable feedback
The pooling of data generated by all of the smart prostheses will necessarily be beneficial to all patients since they will be helped by the progress of research on the biomechanics of joints made possible by the Statera Medical ecosystem.
